Occidental Center for the Arts Presents: Sol Flamenco
Sol Flamenco – the passion and fire of Spain hits the beautiful state of the art stage in Occidental. An evening of lightning-fast footwork, haunting guitar rhythms, and soulful singing await you. The show features a cast of artists who have trained in Spain, the birthplace of flamenco: dancers Damien Alvarez and Joelle Gonçalves, flamenco guitarist Mark Taylor with special guest singer, Azriel “El Moreno”. The group has been working together for many years and it shows in the dancers' precision footwork, emotionally haunting vocals, the guitarist’s bold accompaniment. Sephardic and Flamenco Fusion

Rivka Amado, PhD, is a musician specializing in Judeo-Spanish music, culture and history with a focus on Sephardic women’s songs and spiritual experience. Katja Cooper is an educator and percussionist, who teaches Tefillah and Piyutim (prayers and ancient liturgical songs) to children.
Together with Sol Flamenco Artists, Dancer, Joelle Goncalves and guitarist, Mark Taylor, you will experience a musical Sephardic experience of traditional ladino music with the fusion of authentic flamenco guitar and dance. Joelle Gonçalves is the Artistic Director of Sol Flamenco and has trained in Sevilla, Spain. Mark Taylor is an international recording artist, and has been trained in both Spanish classical and flamenco guitar and has trained in Granada, Spain.
